The Larga seals, fur is silvery grey, with a darker grey mantle. The seals have oval spots. These spots are dark brown-black. At birth the pups have a white fur. The Larga seal looks like the Eastern Atlantic harbour seal , but is smaller and its snout is darker coloured. This seals mainly eat fish, inkfish and crustaceans.
During the winter months these seals come to the coasts, but in the summertime they move to the margins of the pack ice, where they can find more food.
Pups are given birth from January to April. The Larga seals give birth at the arctic pack ice.
The Larga seal is still hunted. Each year many seals die, because they get entangled in fishing nets.
